While January plodded along, February flew by. The end of the month means another round-up of my favorite things. This month, the best things ever are:
Perfecting the Ponytail
Now that my hair is growing longer, I look forward to those mornings when I can pull it back quickly and head out the door. While ponytails are easy, they can be flat and boring. I was intrigued, therefore, when Roxanne from Glass of Glam shared the pony puffin through her Instagram.
I’m typically very skeptical about hair products, especially of items that promise to give your hair more volume. Remember when the “Snookie poof” was a thing and everybody bought bump-its? That plastic contraption did not work as advertised, and rotted in a my bathroom drawer for years before I finally threw it away.
The pony puffin is different, however, and actually works just as described. The pony puffin is a small pod that lifts your ponytail, making it look longer, fuller, and, I like to think, more “Barbie-like.”
To “puff” your pony, you simply pull half of your hair back, place the puffin under the hair and tie the remaining hair up around it. It’s really that simple. The result is a higher, more voluminous ponytail that dresses up your look.
The puffin can also be used to create a very cute top knot. To achieve this, you once again start by placing the puffin under a quarter or half of your hair. You then wrap the small ponytail around the puffin and secure with a hair tie or bobby pin.
The pony puffin is a German product, so the website is primarily in German. They do, however, have a number of hair tutorial videos that are very helpful, despite the language you speak.
A Cool Jacket
Our trip to New York City is quickly approaching, and I’ve been curating city looks. One item I’m really excited about is the Haddie Faux Suede Moto jacket from Kut from the Kloth. I was trying to save the jacket for my trip, but could not wait.
The faux suede is so soft and the jacket’s details make it stand out. I have a number of unique jackets because special outerwear adds so much to an outfit, I think. In fact, this jacket made my outfit, as I just wrote a simple black t-shirt underneath. This jacket was one of the items that arrived in my trunk this month, further proof joining Trunk Club was a good way to start 2019.
Love Day (Love Week? Love Month?)
I know people have mixed feelings about Valentine’s Day, but if you saw my Valentine’s Day looks, you know I LOVE celebrating all February long. Sal and I got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2009, so I like remembering that special time each year.
We don’t typically do anything big, but we exchange cards and spend time together. I attribute relationship success to the amount of quality time spent with your significant other, so prioritizing couple time is an important part of our relationship.
To celebrate Valentine’s Day I created a fun snack board (featuring the cutest heart cheese, which you can recreate at home using these cookie cutters) and we worked on a puzzle of a Paris scene. Our trip to Paris in 2015 is one of our greatest memories, so the puzzle was a nice reminder of that unforgettable trip.
I loved puzzles growing up, but they are much harder than I remember. We still haven’t finished our Valentine’s puzzle! We have, however, moved it to a card table and are continuing to complete it during our free time. I hope by next month I’ll be able to report on the finished product.
The Search for the Perfect Manicure
Manicures are an important part of my self-care routine, but I’ve been struggling for the last six months to find a salon I’m really in love with. After months of trying different salons, I’ve determined my favorite: Polished Beauty Lounge.
The space is bright and refreshing and the services are of the highest quality. My gel manicures have lasted longer than any I’ve ever had! Polished has quickly become my new home base for manicures and pedicures. Having a regular nail salon is very important to me, so I’m happy to be settled somewhere once again.
