Greetings and Salutations!
I’m Nickie- your guide to adding A Little Something More to your life. I’m not a self-help expert, sage, or even a fully self-actualized person. I am a unique young woman (at least that’s what my mom tells me!). But I can never seem to do anything without going a teensy bit over the top. Whether it’s hosting a party, renovating my kitchen, or planning a weekend getaway, I always strive to do A Little Something More.
I was inspired to start this blog in order to share my lifestyle and ideas with others, and, frankly, to get myself out of a rut. After finishing my doctorate in 2016, and deciding that the academic life was not for me, I’ve been floundering. I pursued a doctorate because, in my usual fashion, I wanted A Little Something More. I didn’t want to be just a high school English teacher. I wanted to be a high school English teacher with the highest level of education in my field. I hoped once I finished school, my constant need to keep pushing forward and achieving more would fade. I hoped I would finally be satisfied and could relax into a less frenetic, more casual lifestyle. Accomplishing one large goal, however, does not change one’s natural disposition.
Despite working full-time, taking up yoga, managing my household, spending time with family and friends, and binge-watching every single iteration of Project Runway and Top Chef, my mind was still restless. It is from this place, therefore, that A Little Something More was born. Decorating, setting beautiful tables and planning quirky parties are hobbies I inherited from my mom-the original overachiever. I honed my skills while working for an event planner during college. I continue to develop my passion by planning my high school’s homecoming and prom and hosting my own events.
On A Little Something More you will find fresh takes on entertaining, decorating, and travel- all with a focus on the small touches that push the limits of the ordinary, always adding A Little Something More.
